This is something that has bugged me for some time, I am hoping someone can pick up on it and...in before someone tells me to do it myself I don't have the time.
When you try to run an application that you downloaded that hasn't been marked as executable the dialog box is not helpful at all, i see this type of post on my website all the time:

Hi,
I've created a small C++ application using Code::Blocks. I've run the program from codeblocks and I've run it using the terminal, and it works fine. But when I click on the executable (that is automatically created by codeblocks in the specified folder), nothing happens. Also, I've copied all the required files to the location where the executable is present.
Now by executable CD I mean a disk that usually would run and install a program but for some reason isn't. I would particularly like to know how to install it from the command line (terminal). Please do help. The program on the CD is an .iso file.
I have downloaded OpenJDK Java 6 Runtime because I need it to enable my Internet Scrabble Club game. I did it using the Terminal. But when I try to use it I got the following message:
"The file '/home/sandra/Desktop/wordbiz.jar' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied from an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run.

I have two Fedora computers. One is running 11 and one is newly upgraded to 12. I have a simple fstab line to mount a file with type cifs and no other options except for username and password. When mounted on the Fedora 11 computer the directories have permission drwxrwxrwx and the files have permissions -rwxrwxSrwx. In Fedora 12 the perrmissions are drwxr-xr-x and files are -rwxr-xr-x.
Thank you very much folks, i knew i could count on your help. My problem with Flare: RPG game was the following... When I tried to download the newer version of the software i accidently downloaded a tarball. What I was really looking for was a .deb file to quickly and easily instal the newer version.
when i double click on an executable file, it wont run after i click RUN. i have tried it with a couple of .sh files and some downloaded software, does anyone know why?
a particular .sh file i need to run is a zenity menu.
