I have been running with 2 micro on demand instances. I now want to convert one of the servers to a small instance. I have purchased a Windows small reserved instance in us-east-1b and it is now appearing under "reserved instances".
My micro instances are also in us-east-1b and are running Windows. Do I need to create another instance?
I'm playing with the pricing page on AWS for EC2 instances. My understanding is you have "on-demand" which is pay as you go and then you have reserved instances where you pre pay. So coming from a VPS setup, am i correct in assuming that a reserved instances in AWS terminology is equivalent to a VPS plan? Granted I have to pay a year ahead but I wasn't sure if I'm missing anything else?

I want to assign a reserved IP for an instance on EC2 so that I can use it in my configuration files. I associated an elastic IP with that instance but it changed when I stopped the instance.
