How does a RAID1 system determine which disk to use as the source and which disk to use as the destination when mirroring?
Assume for instance the following scenario: A RAID1 array is created with two disks A and B. A is replaced by disk C, which is added to the array. Files are beeing modified as time goes by.
Hello! I'm new to linux and I want to try OpenSUSE. Since I'm studying programming, I have to know Operating Systems, and how to make programs work under them. Also I would like to help OpenSUSE community with my miserable programming skills, cause I need practice, and it's a nice way IMO :)
I've created a 8GB disk image (ext4) from a partition of USB flash drive via 'dd'. I mount it to a directory:
mount -o loop disk.img mount_dir/
I can access the files inside it. The problem is that when I copy files to the mount_dir, the system seems to have large IO Wait and the system is nearly hang. I also tried to copy only few small files.
Note this is for a RHEL 5.4 system which uses gnome-system-log 2.16 from the gnome-utils package. Unfortunately for us, the selection of these packages and versions are non-negotiable, at least at this time.
When the System Log application is closed, it saves its' set of open log files into the user's folder, in the file ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-system-log/%gconf.xml .
I have a crippled file system after a disk failure and attempt at repairing. Currently the Web Server is running, however I cannot open the filesystem to explore files and view. I am going to do a fresh install this weekend and upgrade system. I have two questions I hope this forum will help with. (Installing new disk and entire server)
I picked up a new backup drive after a lot of trouble with my old one.
I have a directory that have zillions of files. As soon as I try to copy this directory, I receive a message that a file could not be copied (corrupt ?) and the copy stops.
Is there any command I can type on terminal that can check all files on that directory tree and list all files that could not be copied or that are corrupt?
I copied some files to Ubuntu (running on VirtualBox). Trying to open the said copied files and get an error. I'm not entirely sure how the file directory system works, but I used cp command to copy one of the files. Is (and other files that were just copied into the folder manually) shows up in the right folder with ls command.
