Clone working F16 to another box

I have a working Ubuntu uefi-install(12.10). My hdd is partioned with gpt and the efi-partition is on "sda1", and I have a bios-grub partition at "sda2". Ubuntu is installed and is booting perfectly in uefi-mode, and obviously has everything in place, like uefi-firmware and bootloader. I then installed Crunchbang the usual way, in legacy-mode, and grub is written to mbr/sda.

Several years ago I installed Debian on my 500 GiB hard disk. During installation I chose to have encrypted filesystem. So installer created one small unencrypted boot partition (I guess that grub configuration is kept there) and one large LUKS encrypted partition.

I cloned a partition (with 8.04 kde) from an old laptop

I then copied the partition to another new laptop, running 12.04. With gparted (used to do this) I set the 8.04 partition as bootable.

Then booting into 12.04 I update the boot list.

All boot disks seem to be traditionally legacy. UEFI is fairly recent. Setting my laptop to legacy boot only, will boot Parted Magic from USB key but not my OS. Setting dual boot order to legacy first then UEFI, does not have the desired effect. A happy medium is to hit F12 then choose boot device from list.

Here is an outline of my problem.

I've got a new Asus laptop and have been trying to install Arch Linux. UEFI and Secure Boot issues gave me a hard time getting things from the ground. Ultimately, I was able to boot into the Live CD, and I currently have Arch pretty much installed. I plan on using a BIOS motherboard (better put: Compatibility Mode on my UEFI motherboard), using GRUB.

I have a fully 250GB HDD which has XP and oS11.2 dual booting. openSUSE was installed after XP so grub was set up to boot from theb /boot partition leaving the XP MBR intact which is important because it also boots the factory recovery partition..

I've got SIFT (based on Ubuntu 9.10) installed on a work laptop. We're trying to encrypt the entire installation (root partition and swap), which is apparently doable using LUKS, but I'm having some trouble getting it all to work.

Here's where I'm at so far:

I have an unencrypted /boot partition, one unencrypted root partition, and one encrypted partition.
