After a normal update of my Ubuntu 12.04 install last week, my application switcher has stopped working. I've tried all different settings in CompizConfig, including a variety of shortcut keys and both switcher versions ("Application Switcher" and "Static Application Switcher"). So far there has been no way to get any form of application switcher to appear on my screen.
Hi All.
I just upgraded my Ubuntu version from 10.04 to 12.04. When I click a Launcher icon, such as Firefox (just an example), the application will not start. To start the application, I need to right click on the icon then click on the name of the application to get it started.
I have not yet found a question like this, and that surprises me.
I have Ubuntu 11.04 with Compiz and Gnome 2.x
What I would love to have is for applications to open on the workspace that I'm in on the moment I click on their icon.
Usually what happens is that you click on an application, you will get a "Starting application" in your task bar, and then the application will open in whatever work
I just downloaded Ubuntu 11.10 for the first time. I really enjoy the launcher on the left hand side but have a problem. After playing around with adding applications in it, there are large spaces from the last application to workspace switcher. If I try to drag a new application into the launcher everything moves farther down, instead of filling in the space in between apps.
If I remember correctly, clicking on the application in launcher started the application if it was not already open and focused on the application if it was already open. I had to middle click to start another instance.
But, recently, whenever I click in the launcher, a new application window is started, irrespective of whether one is already open or not.
What should I do? A bug?
In the Unity panel, when you left-click on an application that has multiple windows or instances open, it displays the Spread Mode, but when you left-click on a solitary application, it does absolutely nothing.
I'd like to be able to click on a solitary application and have it minimize or maximize, like in a traditional taskbar.
If I remember correctly, clicking on the application in launcher started the application if it was not already open and focused on the application if it was already open.
Previously, I had to middle click to start another instance.
But, recently, whenever I click in the launcher, a new application window is started, irrespective of whether one is already open or not.

Hello I am developing some simple application for ubuntu in C++ and QT4 that runs in tray. On my ubuntu with gnome 2 (10.04 Lucid) and debian squeeze with gnome too everything work as expected - left click on icon start the action and right click shows the menu.
If like Windows Control Panel, then you’ll like Control Center in Ubuntu. From the Control Center in both Windows and Ubuntu, you can configure almost every part of your system from a single application.
