I have a cleartext password in my shadow file. Why is this?
I used adduser/moduser to create a test user and here is the entry in etc/shadow:

I have created a script which adds new user to /etc/password and which inturn creating a locked password in /etc/shadow but I am expecting to have *NP* for that particular user.Can someone help me with a script which can set the password for a particular user to NP in /etc/shadow..Thanks

HelloI could solve the problem, but didn't discovered what caused it.I run and Ubuntu and the SMART tools and badblocks said the disk was fine. Then I run fsck and it said the file /etc/shadow was flagged (or something like that) and that it had a few errors. It suggested a few changes and I applied them.
Hi everyone! I'm Ryan Hoopes, nice to meet you. So my problem is I just upgraded from Fedora 18 to 19 with Fedup, and now I can't log in to my MATE. I click my user name, type the password and hit enter, and the log in dialog disappears and the screen just hangs there. I thought I'd check the log files, can someone help me with this?
