I installed ClamAV and PHP-ClamAV on my Ubuntu server.
Everything works... But it is extremely slow. Even when I just call basic functions without scanning a file.

I haven't used LibreOffice for a while now and I know that OOo and LO are both generally a bit "slow", but my LO is behaving strangely even when considering that, because it starts pretty quickly and then when I start typing and press space, LO freezes totally and after around 5-7 seconds it is normally responsive and usable again.
I'm only running on a low memory system so would like to run only one clamd, but i have googled for hours trying to find the answer with no luck. I tried clamscan instead but it takes far too long to scan each email.
I installed clamav from the yum repos with yum install -y clamav and havent changed any default settings.
Does anyone know how to limit the clamd to run only once?
My ubuntu version is 12.04.
I have installed clamav as root user using the below commands.
apt-get install clamav
apt-get install clamav-daemon
But when I use the below command
clamd PING
It gives below error message.
ERROR: initgroups() failed
Am I missed anything?
Repeatedly in my logs:
ClamAV-clamd: Can't connect to UNIX socket /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl: Connection refused
It seems that clamav-daemon keeps dying. Any idea what might cause this to happen? I last started it a few hours ago and just started it again. It's fully up to date as is Amavis.
Are you using systemd? What's the output of 'groups' for your user?

I installed ClamAV via Terminal with:
sudo apt-get install clamav
but how can I scan for viruses?
Nope. Many "AUR helpers" do this though. In my limited experience yaourt seems to be one that handles this seemlessly, but I'd say it comes with some costs of hiding what is doing from the user.
