Cinnamon failed: desktop only, no panel, no dialog frame

http://unix.stackexchange.com – [moved in from ASK UBUNTU] I am using Linux Mint 14 (MATE) with Cinnamon installed. Cinnamon failed when I tried to delete an item on the menu with menu editor. The system freezed, so I logged out by pressing ctrl+alt+del. When I logged back in, the desktop panel was not loaded (shortcuts were there as normal, right click works as well). I can barely do anyting but get the terminal with ctrl+alt+t. But all the dialogue windows are presented without any frames. Cinnamon is a LinuxMint project, a fork of Gnome Shell. Cinnamon comes with a Gnome2-like panel at bottom, with classic menu, favourite apps, and system tray icons on it. Cinnamon also has Gnome Shell Activity icon on top-left with “Windows & Themes”.

Cinnamon just released 1.1.3 version few hours ago with improvements of menu, panel launcher, etc.

Cinnamon is the default desktop environment in the Linux Mint. Cinnamon 1.6 is coming out soon with new cool and innovative features (see the picture). This simple tutorial is going to show you how to install Cinnamon 1.6 in Ubuntu 12.10 & 12.04.

Install Cinnamon 1.6 from PPA: Before Cinnamon 1.6 going to stable, you can install it from the nightly build ppa.

What I have: Linux Mint 13, Cinnamon 1.6.7

Issue: I honestly don't know what happened, but I turned off my computer for a couple of hours, turned it back on, and when I logged in, my panel was completely gone.

I tried installing nvidia drivers, but that didn't work, so I reverted to the nouveau ones.

pavucontrol broken 33 weeks 1 day ago
