Red Hat (NYSE: RHT) and Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) are running their annual channel partner conferences the same week (Jan. 14-16, 2013). Both conferences are on The VAR Guy’s list of Top 100 Channel Partner Events for 2013. So will The VAR Guy’s team attend the Red Hat or Juniper conference?

When Kaspersky Lab Channel Chief Nancy Reynolds surfaced at the recent VMworld 2012 conference, it was the latest sign that security software companies want to help channel partners safeguard virtualized systems and private cloud environments. But will channel partners jump on the bandwagon?
Reynolds and her Kaspersky Lab peers have been talking up secure virtualization for quite some time.
How did former Sophos Channel Chief Christopher Doggett wind up at Kaspersky Lab, the security software provider? The answer involves PartnerPath (the former Amazon Consulting). Doggett had been out of the channel for a bit. When he decided to potentially jump back into this market, he dialed PartherPath CEO Diane Krakora.
Security vendor Sophos took the wraps off its newly revamped channel program, adding financial incentives, training, certifications, two separate tracks and an upgraded partner portal, in effect, mixing new ingredients with what it called the “best elements” of past offerings.

But The VAR Guy will also be tracking Kaspersky Lab’s newly expanded channel leadership team very closely.
Sophos has issued a security notification to channel partners, explaining why the security company took its partner portal offline last week and reset all portal user passwords. The reason: Sophos discovered suspicious activity on April 3, issued an initial alert on April 5, and offered a more comprehensive partner update on April 6.
