I want the launcher to show when I move the cursor to the top-left corner instead of the left edge because the way it is it tends to show when I don't want it to. How can I do that_

I set the unity launcher to auto-hide. It used to be that when I put the cursor to the left edge it will reveal and stay as long as the cursor is placed at the edge, but may be since yesterday or today when I put the cursor to the left edge to expose the launcher it only show briefly and then hide again.
Running 12.04 LTS. This is extremely annoying and makes me want to try another flavor of linux. Yes, this little inconvenience is THAT annoying to me. Most of the time the launcher will appear nice and easy as soon as I mouse over the upper left corner, but many times, the left edge of the screen will get a little darker, but the launcher will not appear.
When I put the cursor on Unity launcher (I'm using Ubuntu 12.10) to see all the applications, it doesn't move in a vertical way but it remains immovable. The launcher works only if put the cursor on the center of the icon application, but if move the cursor on the left screen it doesn't work well.
I have a Wacom Intuos CTH680 & I can't seem to be able to launch the unity bar with the pen. When I move the pen to the edge of the detection area, the unity bar doesn't reveal itself. The only way I can use the unity launcher with the pen is if I disable autohide, but then the unity launcher obstructs stuff on the left side of my screen.
How it currently works: When I move my cursor to the left border of my screen, the sidebar is revealed sometimes but sometimes nothing happens. I think it has to do something with speed and sometimes there is some kind of shadow, when I "press" against the border and sometimes the launcher is revealed when I "press" further after seeing the shadows.
I have reopened the Unity launcher by disabling auto-hide, thanks to this post -- http://askubuntu.com/a/106673/42720
I am running 12.04 in VirtualBox, and have tested this in both full-screen and windowed mode. Moving the mouse to the left side, or top-left corner, of the Ubuntu desktop does not make the Unity launcher reappear.
