The obvious suggestion is to find out why your computer is so slow. Try top to see what the load is, how many tasks are running, and how much memory and cache is used. [by YBellefeuille]
I tried installing WUBI on a very slow computer running Windows XP. I thought that maybe it would get some extra life out of the computer, but it was so slow that I removed the WUBI and gave up. If I make a partition and install a regular version of Ubuntu to that partition will this give me the result I'm looking for, or is a slow computer just a slow computer!
Generally, what are some ways to diagnose why a computer is running so slow? To
find out whether it is because of insufficient memory, busy CPU, or
some other reasons? What are some distinct symptoms of each cause?
For example, my Ubuntu is now using 1.2 GB out of 1.9 GB RAM, 1.7 GB
out of 3.8 GB swap, and Dual core CPU's usage is about 75%.
Switching between programs can take long.
I have a vps running Ubuntu 10.04 with nginx as my webserver. I use APC for php caching and I noticed my server is doing lots of disk queries which resulted me having slower I/O. I have about +50 sites running on my vps and all are running wordpress. The vps has 2GB RAM with 2GB SWAP. I notice APC has used 100% fragments.
I recently upgraded from the last LTS to 12.04 LTS. I noticed that my computer was running slow and also noticed that it would lock up on me and I would have to cycle the power to my computer. Is there a Ctrl-Alt-Delete function so I can see what's running and what is locking up the computer? Any ideas on what I can look for to see what is causing my computer to lock up or run slow.
I just finished installing Ubuntu 12.4 on my PC. However, after the installation, it has been running surprisingly slow. When, I say slow I mean, the launch of applications takes around 2-3 minutes. On top of that, the computer is freezing-up every 5-7 minutes with application UX turning gray.
I have configured squid for anonymous search and cache proxy. Initially it was working well, after two weeks it becomes slow(loading web page become slow) then again I had to looked into squid. I saw there was updated standard version of squid then I did update squid from 3.1.19 to 3.2.4. Now squid is running all the traffic from our network going through squid proxy server only.
I've had my tab for almost a year and I always have the same issue with every single ROM. When I flash a ROM everything works great for a few hours but by the end of the day it gets soooo slow. It gets so slow web browsing is next to impossible. Scrolling web pages becomes painfully slow and even the most basic functions such as screen unlock and other basic UI slowdowns are driving me nuts.
