If my Dom0 on Xen is kernel 2.6.18 with xen 3.3.1 can i boot a, say, 2.6.34 kernel in a DomU ? Background: 2.6.18 runs like a charm on Dom0. Don't want to update here, because there is special Hardware on the Host (ISDN-Card, etc.). Building a new kernel with this Modules for Dom0 is pain !

But i want to upgrade some DomU's to a newer Kernel...

After a relatively long road traveled with a few bumps along the way, as of yesterday, Linus's mainline tree (2.6.39+) contains literally every component needed for Linux to run both as a management domain kernel(Dom0) and a guest(DomU)...

This tutorial shows how to create a Debian Squeeze (6.0) domU on dom0 running CentOS 5.5 x86_64.

With SLES9 SP4 we managed to set up a XEN PV DomU.

We are using SLES10 SP4 as Dom0 and DRBD 8 as disc-backed: a drbd-device corresponds to xvda in the DomU. The DomU uses the xenblk and xennet drivers, so everything seems ok.

We applied the last patches (EoL of SLES9 SP4 was on 31th of August). After live-migration to another Dom0 the DomU seems to crash.

Best of my knowledge you have to run a paravirtualized guest to have it take advantage of memory adjustment. For PV guests you have to load the xen-balloon kernel module to catch memory adjustments. [by TrevorH]

First impression of relase candidate: Fedora 12 seems to be fine!

Reasons for Fedora 12:

I've chosed fedora (12) because of "unofficial?" dom0 support provided by m.young. I would like to use fedora 12 as (xen) host for virtual guests (centos 5.x) because of "better" hardware support in newer (dom0) kernels.

How to assing the dedicated memory for the xen host system dom0 permamently and how to preventing dom0 memory ballooning ? also what is the minimum memory need for the xen host dom0 when it as already with 10 guest OX each with 512 MB?

I am having issues with a server running out of physical memory and I'm having troubles discerning whether it is from my application's Java process or something else on the server.

I have xen 4.1 Host running on a ubuntu 12.04 LTS Server with ip 153.x.x.54.
