I can find my centos 5.5 cd' any longer - I have a 5.8 sitting here - can I try and rescue with that?I've checked the mirrors but 5.5 is deprecated everywhere! [by jjj0923]
Is there such a thing as a CentOS rescue disk?
Google gives many links to such a thing,
but when I pursue them I do not get to an URL
where I can actually download one.

I'm sitting behind a proxy on my CentOS 6.4 box and I can't perform a 'yum update' because yum keeps killing the slow downloads and trying another mirror. The problem is that the way our proxy works with big files is it will download them fully to the proxy first, perform a virus scan, then forward them to the client (my CentOS box).
# This file uses a new mirrorlist system developed by Lance Davis for CentOS.
# The mirror system uses the connecting IP address of the client and the
# update status of each mirror to pick mirrors that are updated to and
# geographically close to the client.
