Can someone help me in my project? I'm having a very difficult time finding source codes. My project is scanning all cell towers in range of the mobile phone with the same network provider. Just like the open signal app that gets all the cell tower info and signal. I tried the neighboringcellinfo call but the count of towers always returns null. Can some one give me some ideas or codes.
For those that are unaware, Llama is a location based app that uses cell towers to determine your location, so that you can change your ringer, vibrate and ringtones depending on where you are as well as the time of day. I unlocked and rooted my Nexus 6 yesterday, and also disabled forced encryption. Today I realized that Llama wasn't updating my profiles based on my location.
Towards the end of July, ESD America, the makers of the ultra-secure CryptoPhone, said that their engineers and customers had discovered more than a dozen rogue cell towers (also known as interceptors or IMSI catchers) around the U.S.

Can you guys tell me if there might be a setting that would cause my phone to use cell towers for data as opposed to WiFi even when I'm connected to WiFi or does the phone always, no matter what, use the WiFi when it's connected? Reason I ask is because it seems like my Turbo is going through data like crazy! I normally use .6 to .7gb per month and I'm already at .7 in 10 days.
As I understand from here when you have ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION (GPS, cell towers, and Wi-Fi) then having ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION (cell towers, and Wi-Fi) in pointless as it's subset of ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION.
However when I look on permissions for popular geofencing apps (Life360, Family Locator) they have both ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION defined.
