I'm doing this on Crunchbang Linux, version 11. Specifically, the version using the 3.2 kernel. Crunchbang 11 is based on Debian. This is a 64-bit Virtual machine, running on a 64-bit Win7 Professional.

Crunchbang is based on Debian, not Ubuntu, and the Ubuntu Software Center can not be installed, at least not easily or, probably, not usefully.Still, welcome to Crunchbang! With a little time I'm sure you'll be able to get along fine without Ubuntu packages.
