You might have read that catalyst was removing support for any HD4xxx card or below. With support for xorg 1.12 coming in catalyst 12.6, the plan for Chakra was to finally update xorg, and drop support for these cards.Today though, it was announced, there is a first beta release for catalyst-legacy. It is packaged right away, to see how well it functions, so the move to xorg 1.12 can s
AMD has released a new Catalyst 12.10 driver for Linux. I was hoping that with with catalyst 12.10, legacy drivers (version 12.6) will be updated to support xorg 1.13 (required for Ubuntu 12.10).
However, this release seems to be a complete joke.
The instructions are for removing catalyst from the system and use the free drivers provided by xf86-video-ati.Since you replaced catalyst with catalyst-legacy, these don't apply to you.It is just the way pacman works. It is only possible to return messages when a pkg is either installed, upgraded or removed.
I weren't using any lib32 catalyst package before. However, maybe it would be better to wait for a wine update ? It's the only program that can't work properly with the legacy drivers.
The xorg update in staging is about ready to move to testing. This update means a split in catalyst, lower end cards will need to use catalyst-legacy, higher end stay on catalyst. So far, no way found to automate the detection of lower end cards, and stop pacman from updating to new catalyst for these, and exit with a proper warningSo all users on testing, with ATI hd 4xxx or below cards usin
Latest proprietary AMD Catalyst driver version 12.9 cannot be used with Ubuntu 12.10 If you have a AMD Radeon HD 2xxx-4xxx series card.
Drivers for these cards are now available in a separate branch called legacy series. Unfortunately these legacy drivers (version 12.6) have not been updated to work with Ubuntu 12.10.
The wxgtk package is having problems when being built with Catalyst and Catalyst-legacy drivers. On the wxgtk ccr page, FranzMari says that he is getting this error:checking for GL/glu.h... yes
checking for -lGL... no
checking for -lMesaGL...
AMD Catalyst Legacy driver for Linux (compatible with series 2xxx-4xxx cards) has been updated to version 13.1.
This release features some fixes needed by Team Fortress 2 and other Linux games on Steam.
Unfortunately, this driver supports Ubuntu 12.04 LTS only which comes with xorg 1.12.
Are there any instructions on how to install legacy catalyst from rpmfusion? I got no pointers - neither here https://ask.fedoraproject.org/questi...e-to-get-it-to nor here https://ask.fedoraproject.org/questi...k-on-fedora-17
Currently it failed at the very beginning.
