http://askubuntu.com – Why you copy the caps lock indication behavior from Windows XP? The caps lock indicator is only been visible at start of login, during entering password it's gone. That's very irritating, because if you start entering password with head down, you miss any caps lock situation. By then hopen an adaption soon. :o) JensE (HowTos)

My Caps Lock key on my keyboard is not working.

The light indicator does not come on and nothing is capitalized when typing.

What do i need to do to fix this issue.

xmodmap -e "add Lock = Caps_Lock" did not work.

Swapped out other keyboards and still have the same results. The Caps Lock is working on all three on windows.

I've been trying to swap CAPS LOCK key with Tab key. So the CAPS LOCK key shouldn't turn on the CAPS anymore, instead, act as the Tab key. Some people told me that I should create a .Xmodmap file in the ~/ directory. But I have no idea what's next.

Any suggestions?

I know how to use xmodmap to remap the Caps lock key so it acts as a Control key, or as an Escape key.

*TH*is is a strange problem. *NO*tice how the beginning of my sentences include two capitals? Well, over the years I have developed a terrible habit... and it may be too late to fix. Instead of holding shift like a normal person to capitalize my works, I hit Caps Lock, then hit the letter, then hit Caps Lock again. PRetty weird huh?

I am using Keyboard Layouts Plugin to switch between two layouts.

I want to remap Caps Lock to underscore "_"

First I empty Caps Lock, or otherwise caps lock will do both – toggle caps and produce underscore character and then map caps lock to underscore

I constantly hit the caps lock by accident on the EEE.  It drives me  nuts!  On Gnome based distros I usually put: xmodmap -e "remove lock = Caps_Lock" in .bashrc and that takes care of things.I don't know if its #! or openbox.  But, for some reason the above fix gave me all caps, all the time!  I had to hold down shift so as not to SHOUT!

At times, the capslock function will enable itself automatically (the caps light will be off on the keyboard). I then press Caps Lock, the light goes on, and I can type in lowercase. Then while typing it will revert to CAPSLOCK again (caps key still on). I then press Caps Lock again and I type in lowercase again.

The occurrence is infrequent. Any ideas where I should start looking?

I have a Lemur Ultra (lemu3), running Ubuntu 12.04. Recently my computer crashed twice without warning, and upon reboot the num lock and caps lock lights were blinking. There were no error messages.

Could someone please help me diagnose the problem?

I went through Ubuntu's system settings to change caps lock -> control.

I used to be able to press + + in order to navigate backwards through tabs in web browsers. However, I recently switched to a goldtouch keyboard and this key combination does not seem to work. (though the caps lock still functions as control, the combination of the three keys does not seem to register).
