Hello, I had my laptop set up to allow logging in with an AD account using winbind and samba. I had cached password login working too. After I upgraded from 13 to 14, now I cannot login to the gdm (xfce) using my AD account, but I CAN login using it on a text console, OR I can login with a local account and su to the AD account.
I am using Ubuntu 11.10 which was working fine till today.
If I try to login using one of my user accounts it directs me back to the login screen, which is followed by a black screen.
I am sure the password I enter is correct because if the password is wrong it prompts "Invalid Password".
On the other hand I am able to login using a root or guest account.

Login screen won’t accept my password
My computer crashed earlier this evening, I think it was somewhat overheated and shut itself down.
After this, I can no longer log into Ubuntu.
I recently installed Solaris 10 as a VM. I was using the JDS and shut down the vm when I left the office. When I rebooted today I login in at the desktop login screen and press ok but I am reverted to the console screen for a spilt second and then back to the login screen. I log in as root and my password is correct because I am not met with an incorrect login error.
I was wondering if it is possible to log into a ttyN session (not the GUI) as a Guest?
As far as my observation goes the Guest session provided at login are served by lightdm which dynamically creates those guest accounts(correct me if I'm wrong) but how would that be done in a tty login because it requires a login and a password ?
I use Ubuntu 12.04. Initially this was my only OS. Thereafter I installed Win7. However, this damaged Grub, and I was unable to login to Ubuntu. So I tried to fix GRUB using the procedure mentioned here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows . After this I have not been able to login to my account. It does not accept my username password.
I DO WANT:
To be able to select a guest session from the user menu when logged in to my administrator account in case someone needs to use my computer.
I DO NOT WANT
Someone to be able to turn on my computer and login to a guest session
I have heard of a method where one edits /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf to include allow-guest=false (then restarting lightdm)
The problem with that method is that
Right now my only options for my login screen include a clock, email, google posts, and sound search... lame.
I know I can make a guest login with no password but it would be nice to scroll through some other options before I log into an account, like be able to see the weather (for example) without choosing an account.
Good afternoon,
I recently updated my 10.04 release and then had a problem with the graphics card so I updated a little more and now have 12.04 which I'm fine with except that when I get to the login screen I can login as a guest and a secondary accout I have, but not as the main, administrator account.
