Dear Users,
I run a small Ubuntu server 12.04 LTS and want to secure the /tmp and /var/tmp
I followed this tutorial:
http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/howto-m...-nosuid-nodev/
but I did something wrong (or i think) because when i restart the server i needed to skip the /tmp mount:
Code:
fsck from util-linux 2.20.1
fsck from util-linux 2.20.1
/dev/md0: clean, 105386/90816512 files, 29678902/363
This is not what I was used to before. It used to be fsck did a disk check every 30 boots, which is usual.
fsck stands for "file system check" [1]. systemd will check all of your filesystems every time you boot [2]. systemd-fsck[145]: /dev/sda4: clean, 2977/296096 files, 85427/1217024 blocks
systemd-fsck[151]: /dev/sda1: clean, 345/26104 files, 34083/104388 blocks (check after next mount)These messages mean that there are no problems with your filesystems and they are "clean&

The computer is hanging somewhere during the boot. I am never presented with a login prompt on tty1.
I can hit Alt+F2 and login (or ssh in) and everything seems fine, but none of my services have been started (e.g., apache2). Alt+F1 is a blank screen. I can start the services manually.

Hi,
I'm looking for general help on how to edit a file (/etc/fstab) that is forbidding a mount of my (/) disk.
I have edited the file "/etc/fstab" for quota purposes and I can't get the disk (/) to mount.
I don't even have the option to repair or edit the file again.
Ubuntu information displays:
fsck from util-linux 2.20.1
/dev/sda3: clean, 95277/3186688 files, 696906/127362
My main virtual machine crashed today. More specifically, the Windows7 host crashed while the VM was transferring files (very slowly) to a flash drive.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Lucid Lynx in VMware (not sure if it is VMware Player, esx, or what. I downloaded it for free about a year ago) as a testing webserver. Now the VM will not boot past the 1st 2-3 lines.
Every time i boot i have to go threw a disc check. It was fine before i dual booted with Joliecloud .It boots Jolie with no issues,But when i go to #! it says this.dev sda1 was not cleanly unmounted check forcedI updated grub,But still same issue.I went into etc/fstab , But im not to sure what im looking at.Any ideas will be appreciated.
After updating to 12.10, my system won't start. I see the loading screen with the four orange dots, bit then after the screen is all black and flickering endlessly.
I thought to enter recovery mode and see what I can do.
