I've noticed that apparently Unity (which i don't use) doesn't have this complaint, probably since Unity is using compiz and not mutter.
From the link above i infered that it's related to the feature 'unredirect_for_screen' which is a property to not shape the graphics output when in fullscreen mode.
Yesterday I was still using Natty with Compiz. I had noticed that disabling Vsync in Compiz made dragging windows much more smooth and responsive (I don't mind the tearing).
I installed Ocelot this morning which seems to use Mutter by default (I may be wrong there, I'm still kind of lost). Dragging windows has the same sluggish feeling as with Compiz and Vsync enabled.

Is there a workspace switcher ofr compiz like elementary's? It's faster and nicer than ubutnu's current one. Alternatively, is it possible to use elementary's window manager isntead of compiz?

Elementary OS Luna beta 1 is a Linux distribution I previewed just a few days ago. See Elementary OS Luna preview. It is a revamped desktop distribution based on Ubuntu Desktop.
The default effects in mutter just look wrong if you run it stand-alone or as the WM in xfce or any other DE that isn't Gnome Shell. In Gnome Shell the effects behave normal. It feels like I'm running some bad flash animation. :P
Since the fork muffin in Cinnamon have a configuration-tool there must be some settings that can be edited somewhere right?
