Canonical Unveils ‘Unity’ Interface for Netbooks and Ubuntu Light

Canonical CEO Mark Shuttleworth says parts of Ubuntu 13.04 will be kept a secret, out of the public eye until its unveiling. The move, which he writes about on his blog, will sure to create a firestorm in the Ubuntu community, which has in the past rained criticism on Unity, the interface Canonical developed for Ubuntu two years ago.

Yes, after six years of the Human theme and bouncy-roundy Ubuntu logo, it's time for a change. Canonical has announced the new artwork planned for Ubuntu 10.04, aka Lucid Lynx, and it's a major departure.

The man behind Canonical, Mark Shuttleworth, has scratched all the circulating rumours about Canonical working on an Ubuntu Tablet version. He said that Ubuntu is all about Servers, Desktops and Netbooks; there are no plans for bringing Ubuntu to a smartphone or Tablet as of now.

The recent release of Ubuntu 12.10, aka Quantal Quetzal, is a more palatable version of the open source OS built around the Unity desktop environment. Perhaps I am growing more accustomed to Unity, or maybe Canonical's developers are succeeding in refining the graphical user interface, so it seems less objectionable for me to use.
