I cannot update Ubuntu 12.10

When I try to update my sources via sudo apt-get update I come across this error.
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
So, after running that, I try to update again. It tells me I need about 2MB of updates, so I allow them to download.
As stated above I was trying to update my system (particularly my Nvidia drivers) and I got the "dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run "sudo dpkg --configure -a" error. I have run the code multiple times, but it always gets frozen at

I have a strange problem with my brand new installation of Ubuntu 14.04 (and I had same problem with brand new install of Mint, too). While trying to install proprietary drivers for wifi adapter on my old laptop Acer Aspire 3692, the installation got stuck and didn't finish.
