I am more or less a complete Linux noob, and using 12.04 for the first time. Everything works great, and I am very happy, but there is one exception: suspend won't resume. Every time I suspend my computer, (whether by clicking suspend or by closing the lid) it goes to a black screen (with the backlight on) but there is no way to wake it up.
My system is able to resume from suspend only after I've let it hibernate:scratch:.
When I do a fresh boot and suspend the system just after the desktop started, resuming will result in a black screen and I had to power off the computer (see pm-suspend-kde-fail.log).
Hey Bangers. Sorry to be such a pain. Fixed the reboot/shutdown problem for now. It's a bug in Plymouth causing me grief, so I've taken it out again for now. But now I have another issue. On resume, the system is giving me a black screen, nothing more.
This is my first post so please bear with me. I have Xubuntu(12.04) and Fedora17KDE spin installed on my netbook. While Xubuntu wakes up neatly, Fedora gets stuck at the black screen while resuming. After going through the pm-suspend.log file I realized that vbetools was not installed. I installed the vbetools package. Still resume throws up a black screen.
I am using 12.10. When I suspend and resume, I get a black screen. It is not a case of backlight being turned off.
I am not sure if I should file a new bug report or just follow this bug report.
Any thoughts regarding this are welcome.
After a kernel update from 3.3.7-1 to 3.4.0-1, my AMD64 F17 desktop system will no longer resume from suspend. The keyboard has no effect. When I hit the power button, I can hear the disk spin up, but the system is still unresponsive. /var/log/pm-suspend.log shows a normal suspend, but nothing else ( a successful resume will start with an "Awake" entry after the last suspend entry).
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on Asus UX31E, everything is now working perfectly fine with the help from Ubuntu wiki.
To make the screen brightness behave right I added the boot parameter acpi_backlight=vendor in /etc/default/grub but after doing that whenever I resume from suspend the backlight on the screen is off, I can see the screen (very dim).
I've spent a few hours going through similar questions, and found answers ineffective or beyond my comprehension. Beginner user. (1yr)
Suspend began failing after my last update. (Feb 2013 - Not sure which - it was a routine bundle suggested by update manager.) Entering suspend mode is successful.
I just update ubuntu 12.04 to the kernel 3.2.0-30 and together with it a lot of packeges in the system. I am running it on an HP Envy14 1050. When I first made a fresh install of the clean ubuntu 12.04 I had the problem that when restoring from suspend the screen was black, although some backlight was there.
