I have Windows 7 installed in a primary partition and wanted to
install Ubuntu 12.10 in a new partition.
Hi there.
Before installing Ubuntu 11.10, I had 2 partitions in Windows, the second of which I split into 2, the second of which was used for the Ubuntu installation.
However once the Ubuntu installation completed, I could no longer boot into Windows 7, every time I chose the option, the computer would restart and bring me back to the Grub menu.
I recently installed Windows 8 onto a partition that had previously housed XP, and burned a 64-bit version of secure remix and ran boot-repair. I can now see and boot into my Ubuntu desktop, but the Windows 8 installation does not even appear on the grub menu.

I have Windows 7 on my machine and then installed Ubuntu 12.04 using a live CD. I can see both Windows 7 and Ubuntu in the grub menu, but when I select Windows 7 it shows a black screen for about 2 seconds and the returns to the Grub menu.
I've done something stupid.
When I first installed Ubuntu, things went mostly fine, the machine had Windows 7 installed already and I wanted to add Ubuntu.
EFI made a bit of a mess of things, long story short I booted into a live session and used boot-repair to fix GRUB for me.
This made GRUB list 4 Windows boot alternatives and the usual two Ubuntu options.
Then I did something stupid.
I have a second machine where Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Debian Squeeze are installed on the same HD and when I boot, I have this grub menu where I can choose which partition I will used. It works perfectly!
I formerly had windows 7 without ubuntu. Now I upgraded it to windows 8..then I installed ubuntu 12.10 with live disk.
After installing it runs ok and I see a dual boot option in grub menu. Now sometimes I log in to windows 8 for some tasks.
Original title: How can i solve (un)booting windows 7 on the same partition with grub?
I've been researching for 2/3 days about this problem and I have came up empty.
Basically, partition 1 is Windows 7 and partition 2 is Ubuntu 12.04. I told Ubuntu to install into partition 2 and to install grub on partition 1 and that works fine. But the problem now is that I can't boot to Windows 7.
Yesterday I installed ubuntu 12.04.1.
Note : its a dual boot system along windows 7
At first grub was appearing and i was able to start ubuntu but then i had to switch to windows but windows was not booting when i select windows 7 it jumps back to grub window. So i fix the Windows Boot Loader using repair from windows media and wolla windows started to boot but Ubuntu Grub gone.
