I am looking for a tool to keep track of my servers, we use chef-solo everywhere but its hard to keep track. Any simple tool to keep track of servers like Spacewalk, but then simplified?
I use spacewalk for some servers I admin, but its a bit too bloated for what I want now. But how it does work great. We kickstart servers using chef-solo then register it with a static key with spacewalk.
can I connect more than one workstation to the server at a time. Because whenever I try to connect a new workstation to server,it generates a new pair of keys . hence the previous workstation losses its connection with server.
and When I used the same pair of keys for another workstation then it shows error.
So how to connect more than one workstation to chef server?
Hi I am setting up a cluster of machine using chef at offsite locations. If one of these machines was stolen what damage can the attacker do to my chef-server or other notes by having possession of chef-validator.pem ? What other things can they access through chef? Thanks!
We have a set of Chef servers whose node data we integrate with data outside of Chef. Currently we use a batch sync process to read nodes out of Chef and then push the data into the data integration system. We run this every hour, and so far it works fine.
My question is whether Chef supports a more real-time mechanism for getting at this data.
So I'm looking for a uniform way to install chef on a number of different servers running different platforms. I know I can use the omnibus installer for this, but I also need a way to lock or otherwise keep the versions consistent across machines.
