I am trying to download Ubuntu successfully as a dual boot with Windows 7. I made a CD for it but for some reason when I select Ubuntu from the boot manager the installation will come up I can either wait for the timer to complete or go through GRUB and select an option from there (I did both, no success), and once I select an option the screen goes blank. Suggestions?
Thanks

To cut the story short, because of recent issues with a distribution upgrade I did now I have to play around with the Recovery Mode.

I'm able to gain access to the Recovery Mode without any issues. The problem I have is that I'm not able to gain read/write access to my filesystem.
Hi,
My monitor broke the other day and so I had to go out and get a new one. The resolution of my old monitor and the resolution set on ubuntu is 1440x900. The new max resolution of my new monitor is 1360x768.
System : Ubuntu 12.04 with Gnome. 64 bit.
Today, when I was adjusting the display driver, the system started behaving abnormally, first the menu was missing (both in Gnome & Unity) and sometimes the display was coming with a purple tinge. I was trying to remove the Nvidia driver, then there was a power failure and I was completely messed up.
I’m trying to figure what to do with random failures to boot.
My old HP Presario R3000 with AMD Athlon XP-M sometimes boots, sometimes hangs with a blank screen during boot, and sometimes hangs on shutdown.
Hello friends,
I have bought a HP-g6-2230sa laptop, which comes with win8.
I have managed to install fedora18 in it.
But the problem is I cannot make it to boot f18 by default. The usual process to boot to fedora is: start the machine-> be very fast to press F9-> select Fedora (or else it will go to os boot manager and will boot win8).
I've downloaded the .iso file (ubuntu-12.10-desktop-i386.iso), and then used Unetbootin to make my 16Gb Kingston pendrive a live-USB. Then I restart my notebook (samsung r580) and access the BIOS. I select the option to boot from USB, and restart again. The options screen appears.
I got a new laptop (Asus K55A) and I am trying to dual boot ubuntu along with windows 7 (boots into UEFI mode and has GPT partition).
I finished installation from a LiveCD. I was able to use ubuntu from LiveCD for most common applications, video/graphics/audio/wireless/touchpad all seemed to work fine.
When I start my computer, I see the grub menu with ubuntu and windows option.
