I'm trying to help a friend that has some problem connecting to the Internet.
the problem is like that :the eth0 is ok, when used with adsl modem and dialer connected without a problem.
now he switched to cable modem which should give him ip.
ifconfig shows nothing about ipv4 address.
Hey everyone,
I'm having trouble trying to get my requested MAC address to "stick".
I would like to spoof a MAC address on eth0, however any attempts to make it stick seem too "hackish".
If I make changes in the GUI (I guess this is the preferred method of doing it), the MAC address is reset (to the real MAC) as soon as I plug in the ethernet cable.
If I then delete the
This morning I ran into an interesting problem.
I have an Ubuntu Server 10.04.1 that I have given a static IP address. Every six hours or so I will lose connectivity to it and when I type ifconfig to look at the network information, it has been given an address via dhcp. If I run the /etc/init.d/networking restart command the IP address goes back to my static address and things are fine for another 6 hours or so.
Hi there,
I have a problem w/ the LAN connection: the MAC address appears to be different after every reboot. I checked it w/ the ifconf command and looked for the eth0 hardware address. I am using Ubuntu 10.10 on ASUS K51AE laptop.
I have a recent install of ubuntu server (all command line) and at the time of the install I was not connected to the internet.
when entering
sudo apt-get update
I get a bunch of messages saying failed to fetch repos.
I am unable to ping google, askubuntu, or any other site
sudo lshw -class network
indicates both eth0 and eth1 are disabled.
I have two PC's and a series of Juniper EX-2200 switches connected to form a network.None of the devices are connected to any external network. If I do an ifconfig on the first PC (monitor) I see that that PC only has an ethernet address. It does not have an IP address.I want to use an IP address to use applications such as scp.
So I do the following.
sudo ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.7 netmask 255.255
I have a server (Ubuntu 10.04 server) that has two NIC.
I upgraded my Internet connection, and after changing the Modem my Ubuntu Server's eth0 doesn't come up.
I looked at /etc/netwrork/interfaces, it looks all normal eth0 is set to auto and dhcp
# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
# The primary network interface
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
