C compiler cannot create executables?

view story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – this is stumping me. earlier this morning, i compiled Qtcurve with no issues. but now, when i try to compile Avant Window Navigator, i get a strange error. everything begins to compile, it checks dependencies, begins compiling, and then i get this error: Code: checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables See `config.log' for more details. it doesnt make sense to me. so i checked the config.log. it reported this error: Code: conftest.c:1:0: error: CPU you selected does not support x86-64 instruction set i dont understand it.
