Try them both out. Depending on your usage xf86-video-ati should be good enough. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Catalyst willl get you set up with fglrx in no time. Just make sure to use the right aur pkg for your video card.I for one use fglrx cause my kids like their games.

Use lxde if you still want what you ask for and retain openbox usability, dunno why? i think that's your only option,

I haven't really looked into PC-BSD. But on the surface it seems to have been buntu'd, for lack of a better expression. Which could actually be a good thing for BSD's, much like Cannonical and google did for a core system based on a linux kernel.

Hi and welcome to the forum. If the only difference is whether or not you use a login manager, it's probably ConsoleKit related. For example, SLiM (and I think GDM/KDM too and probably others, as well), already start it, so you don't need another ck session in your ~/.xinitrc (see the first note from the SLiM wiki page). Which login manager do you use?
Hi All, thanks for your time and attention.inittab was untouched, it is the same as packaged one.Slim perfectly supports running from DAEMONS, can be confirmed by wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/SLiM#Enabling_SLiMAlso looks like this issue is confirmed for various init styles and display managers.Again, thanks to everyone, waiting for the fix in dbus :-)

I'm using slim with xfce4 too.after running [sudo systemctl enable slim.service] I also had to reinstall slim. [sudo pacman -S slim]everything was back to normal after that.I do still wonder how many other services I'm going to have to start in the future.
