The MacBook Pro with Retina and 13-inch MacBook Air got some mid-cycle improvements under the hood today, with a new 2.6GHz processor for the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, new 2.4 and 2.7GHz processors for the 15-inch version, and 16GB of memory as a top-end spec on the larger Retina model.

At its event today, Apple made much of the fact that the 13-inch MacBook Pro is still its top-selling notebook, right before unveiling the new 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro.

Apple will be unveiling a new, smaller 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro alongside an iPad mini at a rumored press event next week, according to a growing number of reports, including a brand new one from AllThingsD.

Adobe has made good on its promise to deliver Retina Display support to two of its most-used graphics programs, Photoshop and Illustrator CS6.

Apple just announced a retina version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro. “It’s incredibly thin,” said Phil Schiler. The new model is .79-inch thin and weighs 3.57 — 1 lbs lighter than the previous version. “And best of all,” said Phil, “it has a retina display.” It offers nearly 2x the resolution of a 1080p display.

For the past six months, I’ve heard the same thing over and over again: “The MacBook Pro with the retina screen looks amazing. I want that screen on a MacBook Air. That would be the perfect computer.” Well, we’re almost there. Not quite.

When life gives you lemons, everyone knows you should make lemonade, as the old saying goes. But what if life gives you Linux on a Retina MacBook Pro? That, too, has been shockingly referred to as a "lemon" in recent days, but the solution there isn't so clear.

Bringing a Retina display MacBook to market would involve balancing three factors.

“iPhone 5 offers a new 4 inch retina display, which is the most advanced display in the industry,” said Tim Cook. “No one comes close to matching the quality of the Retina Display.” He is, of course, obligated to both say and believe this despite the fact there are plenty of displays already available and forthcoming that surpass the iPhone 5′s Retina display.
