I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit desktop version) on VMWare player over Windows 7 host (64 bit). I am unable to access network. apt-get fails and I am unable to browse the internet. I tried re-installing VMWare tools..it didn't help. I am new to Virtualization and networking. Can someone please help me out?

I am new to the world of Linux and VMware. I have installed Red Hat 6.1 on VmWare Workstation9. I was able to connect to the internet and browse various websites, e.g. Google, Dropbox etc.
I have installed Oracle VM virtual box on Windows 7 and using LINUX (backtrack 5) as my virtual OS. The problem is i'm unable to connect to internet from my virtual OS. i'm using USB dongle (mobile broad band) to connect to internet from my host OS windows 7.
I tried setting NAT in VM settings but this doesnt help.
I am running Ubuntu Linux image in VMWare. The host is Windows XP.
There are two network adapters configured in VMWare - one is host-only and the other is bridged. Everything works fine as long as the host does not lose network connectivity.
If the host loses connectivity (even briefly) and then re-acquires it, my bridged adapter in VMWare is still unable to get an IP address.

After a lot of troubleshooting I am still unable to get Internet working on ubuntu 12.04 installed on my VMware Player.
I tried commenting out dns=dnsmasq.
ifconfig returns: eth0 and lo with the ipaddress and other information.

Hi everyone,i have a weird problem with the latest Vmware Player 5.0.0I have installed Virtualbox and everything went just fine but i can't start Vmware and neither there is a /bin directory.Kernel Headers and build-essentials is installed.When i type in terminal:azrael@crunchbang:~$ vmware-player

I want sound and internet access thru Linux using VMware. It will give me confidence to add it as a dual boot to my hard drive. I have sound and internet access thru Windows 7. I have sound thru the sound card test but I'm not able to play / hear cd's.
I'm having problems with the network configuration, I get the message, "cannot activate the device etho:1 no link found".
