I am running Ubuntu 12.10 on an HP Pavilion dv9000 with the MATE DE. For some reason my screen keeps going to sleep (going blank) after 10 minutes of being idle, but I have the screen saver turned off and I have the power settings set to NEVER turn off or dim the monitor.

Hello, As the title says, I am running xubuntu 12.10 and there is seemingly no way for me to adjust power settings, as it doesn't show up in settings. I can't suspend my laptop, I can't hibernate it, the battery indicator in the tool bar has disappeared, and I am growing very frustrated after hours of looking through forums because no one seems to have my exact issue.

Overview

My problem is that the hotkeys to change brightness of my laptop are not changing the underlying setting in Gnome.

I have a Dell Inspiron 4000, 900 Mhz Pentium III, 192 MB RAM,10.1 GB disk running Lubuntu 12.04. When I start the computer, and I check the display resolution, Monitor Settings claims that the max resolution is 1024x768.

I've got a problem with my network speed. I sometimes have full download speed (i.e. 5 MB/s, which is about my max. internet dl-speed) and sometimes comparable slow speed (about 0.5 MB/s). This is affects both internet and home network!

When I got slow network speed it stays that way until I 'renew' the module for my PCI network card (sudo rmmod e1000 followed by sudo modprobe e1000).
