Well, where do I begin? I started with linux in September of '09. Been using mostly debian based, mostly ubuntu. Love it. Tried out Crunchbang last year, but wasn't thrilled. Recently been through everything on Ubuntu 12.04: Unity, Gnome Shell, KDE, XFCE, LXDE. None of them did it for me. So, a couple weeks ago, I came back to Crunchbang.
Holla :DI just found out about crunchbang. I like that its Debian based.I'm been using Debian for the past 2 years, really liked it, I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a new laptop as Debian Lenny was getting a bit old, and I wanted to try out Ubuntu.
This is kind of a strange home-coming. While I've occasionally checked the crunchbang site and forums, it's been years since I actively used it (ie. 8.10 release).Back then, I wasn't thrilled about the direction that Ubuntu was taking, so I bailed ship for Debian a little before corenominal's announcement that crunchbang would be doing the same.
Congrats to the Crunchbang dev team, on the move over to Debian, and for the continued commitment to their user base. I'm looking forward to testing out both the Xfce and OpenBox versions, of the new Debian sourced Crunchbang.- NT

snowpine wrote:Is there a petition to bring this feature to other distros? I do a lot of Amazon shopping and would find this feature very convenient. (But I am not willing to switch to Ubuntu to get it )Ubuntu being Debian based, just like #!, I guess it would be relatively easy to introduce this feature into crunchbang.
I'm sure we already have several threads on this in the archives, but I keep thinking about it, and we often state in these forums that "CrunchBang is basically Debian with Openbox and a few UI and performance tweaks." So, is CrunchBang a separate distro, or is it "basically Debian"? Yes, there is the separate repository, but aside from a patched library or two
After I installed Crunchbang Statler, the only repositories that were in my sources.list file were the cdrom and security.debian.orgI tried adding the debian squeeze repository, but when i upgraded, a lot of things were broken, so I had to reinstall crunchbang. So I would like to ask what the URL for crunchbang's repository is?
I'm from across the pond (USA) and I've played around with Linux since about 1995/1996. My first distro was Mandriva or it may have been called something else back then.I discovered CrunchBang back in 2009/2010 and immediately fell in love with it. I initially installed CrunchBang on an Asus EEE-PC and was amazed that practically everything worked right after installation.&nb
