I have researched a lot on this and basically most of the solutions that are on the internet / stackexchange revolves around the brightness buttons not working.
If you are brightness buttons are not working then you can do a million things to get it work
i) install applets
ii) modify /etc/brightness file
iii) write scripts to modify brightness
Hi everyone, when I start my computer it starts with max brightness, I don't like it.
So in rc.local I put
Quote:
echo -n 25 >/proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCDD/brightness
It work fine for run-level 3, but when I startx the brightness go to max again. Can I control/save brightness for X.
I use slackware64 13.1 with a Ati graphic card.
This is just an annoying little bug that I'm having.
Every time I reboot my system, brightness is restored to 100% and stays that way until I manually lower it down using my brightness keys.
100% brightness is blinding, and while it's not a major issue, it's still annoying to have to do this manually.
Laptop: Dell Studio 1555
When I use the brightness changing buttons Unity changes the brightness by two levels each time to create a nice effect. However, I only have about 10 different brightness settings and so this effect has caused a reduction in brightness settings to 5.
Hi
I've got a laptop with the Intel GMA 4500 chipset, and my Ubuntu system is using the i915 driver.
I've gone through a few different versions of Ubuntu, and other linux distro's, each one unable to control the brightness. This is obviously eating up my battery life, since the screen is at a constant 100% brightness, when I usually use about 35% brightness.
I followed this tutorial to set the brightness indicator on Unity.
Is there a way to prohibit Powerdevil from messing with the screen brightness?
I already tried to disable the tick box "Let PowerDevil manage screen powersaving" but that does not fix it. It still controls brightness.
Hello,
I am installing a fresh copy of Fedora 18 on my laptop. HP Envy dv7. The brightness control works great on the Live CD and after installing. However, when I upgrade to the latest kernel/packages. The scale of the brightness control is off.
Previously I use the keyboard brightness control keys and I hit it 7 times to reach the maximum brightness.
I have a Samsung NF210 and while the Fn-Brightness keys are registering (that is the brightness pop-up with the amount of brightness bar is showing and changing) the actual brightness is not changing. Volume works fine.I have tried addingacpi_osi=linuxto grub as suggested by another post with a similar, but not exact, laptop.
