For a long time I've been unable to get updates due to a "repositories not found" error. Yesterday someone fixed this for me but after installing 94 days worth of updates my system wanted to restart.
Hi,
Is there a way to login terminal before the regular login? Reason, I noticed this NVIDIA driver for the Quadro FX 3400 states in the read me file that I need to shut down xorg and enter terminal to install the driver. I ran shut sudo lightdm to shut down my display and my screen goes blank. I can type all day put it's not the terminal.
I just installed Fedora 18. After a fresh install and a yum update I rebooted to new 3.7.9-205 kernel. I got to the boot menu let it default to the newly installed kernel. Afterwards instead of getting the usual login page to sign in. I got a screen full of unreadable pixels. After which the computer is pretty much frozen.
ubuntu 12.04 newest kernel 3.7.1
Ok, I downloaded "Eclipse" in order to do some programming. then I wanted to reinstall it so i " sudo apt-get --purge remove [Ecplise] ".
Then I restarted my computer (asus ux31a) and it loads the nice purple startup screen and then goes straight to the command -line and asks for login and password.
Hi,
I have a problem with one older computer. It is ASUS K52N. There is debian x64 installed with gnome graphical environment. After installing gimp 2.6 gnome is not able to start(after booting I can just see terminal and after typing startx there is just mouse cursor). I wanted to install another system but it does not boot any cd or dvd anymore. What can be the problem?
Hello, I have created a liveUSB of Ubuntu 11.10. It works well on my home computer, after selecting Ubuntu in GRUB it loads on and runs. But, when I put the USB into school computer, it loads GRUB, then I choose ubuntu 11.10 and it starts loading. But, it does not boot into a graphical interface, with the login screen, but only gives me a terminal line on a black screen.
Hi,
I have been using ubuntu alongside windows for many of these years right from 6.06 days.
I installed ubuntu via Wubi. So the computer should boot and screen should show me the Boot options (Windows/ubuntu).Am i right ??
For the past 2 months, I have been facing this problem.
how to connect to internet using terminal
I have crashed 10.04 and need to use recovery mode boot to repair deleted packages. Repair command fm terminal seems to need internet. My internet is via wireless hotspot and usually connects automatically if ubuntu boots normally. I can get a terminal but not a normal boot.
Thanks
I am unable to get past the login screen. It won't accept passwords, the screen momentarily goes black, and then returns to the login screen.
I recently found out that you can use CTRL-ALT-F1 to switch from the login screen to the command line. My password works in that situation and I was able to enter terminal mode.
I typed in "startx" to see what would happen.
