I just installed Ubuntu onto my hard drive from a USB drive. When I reached the partitions screen, I noticed it listed the full hard drive as "free space" even though I already had Windows 7 installed.
I knew I had about 50 GB of free space on the hard drive, so I partitioned sda1 for 35 GB and installed Ubuntu onto it, and partitioned sda2 for 4 GB of swap space.
Hi,
I am new to linux and this is my first linux installation.
I installed Ubuntu today for the first time on a Dell desktop running Windows XP sp3.
I opted to install on a second hard drive, following these instructions:
http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/07/23/dual-boot-ubuntu-12-04-and-windows-...
When I reboot my computer, and enter the boot sequence menu in BIOS, there isn't even an entry for my second hard drive.
I have two drives. Drive A has windows xp on it (only 1 partition) and the partition is encrypted with TrueCrypt. Drive B has a boot partition that has GRUB2 stuff on it and also an LVM partition that has Arch Linux in it.
I just installed ubuntu onto a blank hard drive with a 10GB partition and it went fine. When I restarted the PC (when it asked), I quickly changed the BIOS so that it booted from the HDD not the disk anymore. However now all I get is a black screen with
BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
Not sure how to fix this issue?
Hey, everyone!
My problem isn't actually in Linux, but most people here seem to be pretty knowledgeable about computers as well, so I figured I'd ask.
When I boot nothing happens. It takes me back to boot menu and no grub is loaded. What boot menu? The boot menu where it says "GRUB 2.00"? That's GRUB. You probably just forgot to generate a grub.cfg, or you should have used "grub-install [...] /dev/sdb" instead of /dev/sda (if Arch is on the second drive).Note: Change /dev/sda to reflect the drive you installed Arch on.
I recently installed Ubuntu for only the second time in my life recently. First time was many versions back. I have an Asus G73JH with 2 physical hard drives. On my primary drive I had the MBR and windows 7 installed.
I installed, and reinstalled Ubuntu from the live disk.
When I restarted the computer. The only choices in the menu are the hard drive, the DVD drive and the rescue partition.
I tried to do this three times, yet Ubuntu does not show in the choices.
