So I'm using Ubuntu live CD to install Ubuntu next to Windows 7 but it doesn't recognize partitions.
Here is sudo fdisk -l:
Disk /dev/sda: 640.1 GB, 640135028736 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 77825 cylinders, total 1250263728 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes

I had:

Windows XP
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS x32

Fake RAID 1 (mirroring) with 2x1 TB:
Partition 1 - Windows
Partition 2 - SWAP
Partition 3 - / (root)
Partition 4 - Extended
Partition 5 - /home
Partition 6 - /data
arek@domek:/var/log/installer$ sudo fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes

Guys, I wrote an ISO to /dev/sdb1 (My 1TB HD) instead of /dev/sdc1 (8GB pendrive I was trying to make bootable).
I had pretty much the same problem but it looked strange to me as the linux partition was installed in an extended one.Here is the ouput of fdisk -l :Disk /dev/sda: 320.1 GB, 320072933376 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders, total 625142448 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512
When trying to install Ubuntu 11.4 on an existing Windows installation I am not able to see my existing partitions not in the installation menu and not in gparted via live cd as well.
sudo fdisk -l:
Disk /dev/sda: 2000.4 GB, 2000398934016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 243201 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

I have a 500gb external drive that I used for Windows storage. Later, I partitioned it and made an Ubuntu partition. Now, when I connect the hdd on windows, it is not able to recognize it, but Ubuntu can see all the data. Any way I can fix it so Windows sees the windows partition at least on Win XP?
This is my new output but I didn't manage to fix the order...[konos@archBox ~]$ sudo fdisk -l
Warning: ignoring extra data in partition table 5

I've used Ubuntu/Linus off and on but haven't worked with it for awhile. This time around I've installed 12.04.1 within VirtualBox on Windows 7 64bit.
Within Ubuntu, how do I see/mount NTFS drives that are part of Windows7?
A friend have given me her external hard drive which contains a backup of his Windows data.
