I always prefer using a USB to install Linux distros because it is easier, more convenient and faster than using a CD or DVD. If you dont know how to install Ubuntu and other Linux distros using a USB stick, here is my guide about how to do so. However, yesterday a friend of mine got an error when trying to use a USB to boot Ubuntu.
I have tried to boot from a USB drive using three different programs, LinuxLive USB creator, Universal USB creator, and UNetBootin. I am using a Dell Latitude E5410 running Windows 7 and am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04.
Each time I select boot from USB device, I get to a menu with options to try Ubuntu without installing, boot into Ubuntu, and install on Hard Disk.
Hi,
I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 on my macbook. I downloaded and put it on a usb stick as per these instructions. Everything seems to work fine until I restart my comp and try to boot from the USB: The only option it gives me is macintosh hd.
The Hp pavilion g6 notebook is unable to boot from bootable usb stick.
I downloaded the 12.10 server ISO and used Linux Live USB to create a bootable stick. I used this stick to go through the install process. The target is a Lenova Q190. The install process seemed to go fine and it got to the point where it said to remove the media and restart. When I did so the Q190 reported:
Error 1962: No operating system found.
Hi,
I used the fedora live-usb creator to build a F18 live-usb-stick but when trying to boot, I only got this message:
SYSLINUX 4.02 2010-07-21 EDD load error - boot error
I also realized, that using this stick, I get the same message on different machines...
Is there any way to make a bootable ubuntu usb stick from an ubuntu iso image in OSX?
I have a Macbookpro and I'm planning to create a multiple boot.
A custom image of Fedora 6 was built on a USB stick of size 2GB.
The size of the image is 546MB and i need to build the image on a 1 GB USB stick.
-The partition on the disk is bootable and I have a grub bootloader
- BIOS is configured to boot from the USB stick.
The same set of files are copied to the 2GB usb sticks and the 1GB usb sticks.
Hello everyone. I am fairly new to linux. I had my laptop dualbooting windows xp and ubuntu 10.04 32 bit. I decided to install slackware 13.1 and did so via the 13.1 iso dvd. While going through the install process I made a usb boot stick. When I tried to install lilo to the mbr it came back with an error and said it hadn't installed.
