So I have 2 hard drives a HDD 320GB and a SSD 20GB. Before I had Windows 7 on the HDD and Ubuntu on the SSD but wanted to get rid of windows and reinstall a clean Ubuntu on the SSD then use the HDD for storage.
So I deleted everything from the HDD and set up the SSD with 18GB ext4 and 2GB Swap and installed Ubuntu on the 18GB ext4.
I have a laptop on which I had Win 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 installed. The hdd has two partitions (one primary and one extended). Grub wasn't loaing initially so I ran the boot disk repair tool which seemed to sort it out. However, I mistakenly removed python (long story) from the Ubuntu OS and this obviously messed up Ubuntu a lot.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 in my computer without problems, but after rebooting i got the following error:
Error: No such partition
grub rescue>
I am a novice with ubuntu and any detailed instructions to the problem will be highly appreciated.
I ran boot repair as per the following:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair
boo
hi all,
While formatting my notebook, i accedentely unplugged it before it was finished :(, so now i'm getting the error "Error: No such partition (Grub rescue)", doesn't matter if i boot from the hard drive or a USB stick with Ubuntu on it (tried with windows too) i always get the same message!
All the solution i have found so far include booting from a live CD wich isn't an option f
I had a dual boot with win 7, Ubuntu, and Linux mint. I deleted the two partitions for Linux and Ubuntu and extended the windows partition back into the unallocated space.
My computer does not have a working CD rom drive, so I had booted from USB (used UNetbootin to make the USB) to install Ubuntu initially. I had Ubuntu working on my laptop (Gateway 7330gz), started messing around with it, and decided I wanted to start fresh again.
Hi,
I'm a pretty new Ubuntu user, and I can't figure out what to do from searching other threads.
Anyway, here's my situation:
I had Ubuntu 12.04 installed on a partition, and OSX 10.7 on another, and it worked great. Then after I installed 10.8, my Ubuntu partition no longer worked.
This is my situation:
I Installed Ubuntu without a CD (using A USB)
Dual boot installation (Windows 7+Ubuntu)
I did not like the installation and decided to boot into Windows and delete the Linux partitions, but I forgot to fix the mbr from within Windows.
Now, when I boot, I am stuck in the GRUB rescue limbo.
How can I boot into Windows from GRUB rescue?
I cannot boot from CD because I don't

The /boot is a primary partition and the rest is logical. I set the device boot loader to /boot and when I restart I get a error grub rescue message.
am i supposed to set the device boot loader to /dev/sda or sda3?
