http://forums.opensuse.org – I have tried Ubuntu = live CD loads to blank screen. Was able to load by F4 I think it was and selected safe graphics. Fedora = Never even saw anything; no choices to make; totally blank. Suse= Did the install and blank screen; selected safe mode= still blank. I have a Dell Laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 and 1Gb RAM. Default Res 1600 x 900. I'm thinking if I can load a live Linux and do some editing, but don't know what. So if I can get into Suse's new install any ideas on what to edit? xorg I guess.:\ (Distributions)

Hello all,

I am trying to use the FC18 liveCD on my HP dm4 laptop. The problem is when i try to boot using the liveCD, my laptop screen remains blank and no matter what key i press it remains blank.

I went into troubleshoot option selected boot with basic graphics however its no use the screen is still blank.

Hi guys, ok so the last post didn't get any replies possibly because the way I worded it made it sound more than it actually is. I'm guessing by now that everyone has heard of the infamous blank/black screen after install?

HP Pavilion PV6700 - AMD 64x2 - 2G ram - Created live USB, got on and did a complete install. Now whenever I boot up it allows me to log on then goes to a blank screen and loads the mouse then just sits there.

During playback of a video file (on the HDD) the screen attempts to go blank. If I move the mouse the blank screen disappears and I am able to see the video again. I have checked the settings; Tools>Preferences>All (to select the Advanced Menu)>Video and placed a check mark (ticked) Turn off Screensaver (which, by the way, was already selected) but this seems to have no effect.

I am running jaunty remix on a Samsung nc10. For about two weeks now, I often get a completely blank, white screen. This frequently happens at start-up. The screen is blank but I hear the prompt for user name and password. I can enter them, and some time later, I will see the desktop.

Basically i install Ubuntu using a boot CD and it install 100% but after i restart my desktop the screen just goes blank, i can run it of a live CD. The same thing happens with openSUSE and zorin.

So I am a first time Linux user, and wanted to install Ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop that was previously running Windows 7.

I made a live USB drive to try it out, and then used it to go through the installation. (I wiped my old W7 install and replaced it with U12.10.)

Everything completed fine, but now after my BIOS screen there's a blinking cursor for about 4 seconds and then nothing.

I make a OpenSuSE 11.2 KDE live cd and a DVD.. on the DVD right after installation the system couldn't boot, only blank screen appear. then I try the live cd, but right after the grub loader, after it says "loading kernel" and show the loading progress under the SuSE logo it just show me a blank screen...

Dear AllLast night i did a fresh installation of Statler Alpha 2 - Openbox - 32bit on my fathers machine due to EOL of 9.04 based on Ubuntu.Installation and the post-install script went just fine. But after a reboot there is no X anymore - the screen just stays blank.
