Does the Noveau video driver support an Nvidia NVA8 video card? If so, does it require a special xorg.conf to make it work?
On my FC11 64 bit system, I successfully use a card that is reported in /var/log/gdm as
(--) NOUVEAU(0): Chipset: "NVIDIA NV4B"
but I would prefer to use a "MSI N210 MD512H" card that is reported as
Howdy,
I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on a Lenovo X500 laptop. Today I decided to
install the proprietary ATI/AMD graphics driver that was shown as available
in the "Hardware drivers" Administration menu. I clicked "Activate" and it
installed and told me I needed to reboot.
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old PC, Dell dimension L550r, PIII500, 512M ram.
There is a problem that monitor is not detected. I could logon as 'xterm' type, but the window size is only 1/4 of screen. When I logon as 'GNOME', it seems screen is not refreshed. media player window is blank, but can see a static image if minimize and restore window.
Hey guys,
Im very new to the world of Ubuntu/backtrack, which I'm very eager to learn much more!
Ive been hindered by the installation of nvidia drivers.
So far i have installed all of the nvidia drivers and the cpu toolkit, but im stuck at the famous no screen error at "startx" command.
xorg.conf :
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig

Hey,
I've run into a problem recently that I'm unable to solve on my own.
System info:
Intel Core i7-930
6GB RAM
NVIDIA GTX 670 4GB (Proprietary NVIDIA 304.60 blob)
Fedora 17 64-bit -- up-to-date
3.6.6-1.fc17.x86_64
KDE 4.9.2
I am experiencing what some people on the internet are referring to as the NVIDIA "red screen of death".
Alright recently i installed a graphics card.. a radeon 9200.. and this seems to be the problem..
my xorg is mostly default except for the following..
Section "Device"
Identifier "radeon 9200"
Driver "ati"
BusID "PCI:0:8:0"
I have a Ubuntu 12.04 box with a new Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 video card. I can't install the linux video driver for that card, because the installer stops when it detects an X server active, & refuses to proceed. If I use "dmlight stop" (or something near that, I forget the syntax) it kills X, but in replacement I have a monochrome blank screen.
When I start to boot and I get the grub loader it has at the top:
Ubuntu
Advanced Options for Ubuntu,
then goes to my dual boot system win 7,
My question is that if I select the plan "Ubuntu" it opens up a terminal type log in asing for my username and password, if I enter that it then goes to my name and wants a command, I enter "startx" and it will go to my screen in versio
I recently installed 12.04 on my new dell laptop 3420 having 8GB RAM,intel i5,500gb HDD , nvidia 620m 1gb graphic card.

then i loaded nvidia current drivers
after this when i powered it ON ........it start showing blank screen and caps lock led keep on blinking to rectify this i have to remove the battery physically and power on and start ubuntu
