BlackBerry PlayBook approved for use by the Australian Government

Research In Motion (RIM) has given a strong indication that its PlayBook tablet will shortly be introduced to the Australian market, inviting local journalists to preview the device next week.

The Defence Signals Directorate has cleared the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet for use by government agencies.

Research in Motion will release two app players this summer that allow running Android 2.3 and Blackberry Java apps on its upcoming PlayBook tablet. The 1GHz, seven-inch tablet will run the apps in a secure virtual & sandbox,& giving PlayBook users access to a potentially huge number of applications....

Research in Motion's BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will launch through all of Australia's major mobile carriers as well as retailer Harvey Norman in three different models from 20 June, the Canadian company said today, with recommended retail prices starting at $579.

Research In Motion just announced that BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES 10), a device management system, is now available for government agencies and corporate clients. BES 10 is a successor to RIM’s enterprise mobility management (EMM) and consolidates device management, security and mobile applications management for BlackBerry smartphones, Playbook tablets and BB 10 smartphones.

National mobile carrier Vodafone has released a limited amount of information about how it will price Research in Motion's BlackBerry PlayBook, noting the device will be available bundled on a single monthly plan with the BlackBerry Bold 9780 handset and will launch next week on June 29.
