Greetings! I want to try Linux, but when I boot into Ubuntu I always get a black screen. After my bios loads, I'm asked if I want to boot in Win 7 or Ubuntu. I choose Ubuntu, the screen flashes purple for a second, and then I'm stuck at the black screen. Any thoughts?
I'm using an AUSUS GTX 570 GPU with current drivers, and I'm trying to use the 64 bit version od Ubuntu.
I have Ubuntu 14.04 installed and GeForce 540M CUDA enabled Nvidia Graphics card on my Lenovo Ideapad z570. I was using gnome shell in it and installed nvidia drivers and cuda on it using the following commands:
As the topic title states, when I logout, I get a black screen, and my computer freezes. I also get this when I switch sessions with CTRL+ALT+FX. I have an ATI Radeon HD 4570 with the drivers installed from the ATI repository (although I tried to fix it by uninstalling the drivers). I've already done some research, but haven't found a solution.
Yesterday Windows installed some updates when shutting down. Today I wanted to start Windows, but after the BIOS screen I only see a black screen, with no cursor or whatsoever. I search for this issue and found out, that it might have something to do with a corrupt display driver. But this does not help my much because I can't enter the safe mode of Windows (hitting the F8 key has no effect).
