I see you have 2 gfx cards. Discrete cards or optimus? Can you switch to virtual console when the screen goes black? Ctrl+Alt+F2 and log in?Do you have package 'firmware-linux-nonfree' installed?
I've just installed ubuntu 11.10 on a 64bit machine with 2 nvidia cards. After installation, I rebooted and a black screen showed up, with a blinking white underscore. So I re installed the system, giving nomodeset as kernel boot option (since i understood it can solve this issue).
Now i dont have a black screen, but a corrupted splash screen with no login menu. CTrl+alt+F4 does nothing.
I was using the omnirom nightlies but suddenly the screen didn't respond, everything works like it should but the only I was able to see was a black screen. It's very annoying trying get lucky with the power button to wake up the screen.
I installed 11.10 on my desktop. After the intro screen from the Intel motherboard, I just get a black screen. I've looked at the various fixes online which would require access to tty1 but hitting Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't work for me. I just remain stuck at the screen.
I have an HP G4-1387 which has two graphics cards, an ATI 7450M and Intel HD3000.
I tried to install Ubuntu and run it from my USB stick, I get the usual black, console like screen showing a lot of things in an small resolution, then the screen adjust the resolution and then it is suppose to start Ubuntu or installation but instead I get a black screen forever.
Hi guys!I bought a Lenovo T440p a month ago and installed arch for the first time ever and it works quite well, but I have some issues when returning from suspend.Every other time when I open the lid, returning from supsend, the screen turns black with a column of randomly colored pixels. I tried to switch to a console, but the screen (still on) kept being black with one column of pixels.
I just upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10 and all I get is a black screen. If I press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, the login screen displays just fine. I've tried all the different session types and all I get is a black screen. If I do startx from a command line, it gives me the error message "ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia_319': No such device". I made sure the package nvidia-319 is installed.
