Greetings! I want to try Linux, but when I boot into Ubuntu I always get a black screen. After my bios loads, I'm asked if I want to boot in Win 7 or Ubuntu. I choose Ubuntu, the screen flashes purple for a second, and then I'm stuck at the black screen. Any thoughts?
I'm using an AUSUS GTX 570 GPU with current drivers, and I'm trying to use the 64 bit version od Ubuntu.
Hi guys, I'm rather new to the Linux world and am experiencing some problems I'd like to seek help with.
So I recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.10 in my Acer Aspire 4736z, which has Intel GMA4500 chipsets.I had to set 'nomodeset' in the installation part to get through the installation itself, otherwise I would get stuck with a black screen.

Every time i attempt installing ubuntu on my VM it goes flawlessly until the initial start up of the OS, i cannot seem to fit the machine inside my screen resolution. i installed a pre-made VM for an open source project and the resolution was fine, everything was scaled and actually a full screen.
I'm newbie here.
I've searched many web for my problem.
I've tried several times to install Ubuntu.
I used Wubi, and the result is always black screen after go trough the Boot manager and choose ubuntu.
I also tried using disc image so i can boot from disc. It's not start to install.
