BI, analytics, PM revenues soar to $12.2 billion in one year

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker, factory revenue in the worldwide hosting server market increased 3.1% year over year to $14.6 billion in the fourth quarter of 2012 (4Q12). This was the first quarterly increase of factory revenue in five quarters.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau just released its full-year report for 2012, showing that digital ad revenue set a new record of $36.6 billion, up 15 percent from 2011. Mobile was the fastest-growing category, though it still accounts for a relatively small part (9 percent) of overall revenue.

Evidence of market saturation in the U.S. can be seen in new research from IDC that takes a look at the global connected device market. Shipments and revenues declined here, even as worldwide market share grew. The connected device market, meaning smartphones, tablets, and PCs combined, grew 27.4% year-over-year in Q2 2012, IDC says. There was also a slight bump of 2.8% growth from Q1 to Q2.

Oracle just announced mixed third quarter earnings this afternoon, reporting that revenues were down 2% to $8.2 billion. GAAP earnings per share were $0.41, up 15% compared to last year while non-GAAP earnings per share were up 11% to $0.53.

Google’s earnings for Q3 ending on September 30 leaked in a SEC document. Revenues are up 45 percent compared to Q3 2011 and now represents $14.10 billion. However, GAAP net income is down 20 percent year-over-year to $2.18 billion, or $6.53 per share, compared to $2.73 billion for Q3 2011, or $8.33 per share. Non-GAAP earnings per share is at $9.03 compared to $9.72 year-over-year.

Today Google announced their Q2 earnings, reporting 21% growth year over year for revenue, to the tune of $10.96 billion. GAAP income was also listed coming in at $2.79 billion, up from 2.51 billion in Q2 of 2011. As of Q2, Google reports having $43.1 billion in cash reserves and equivalents.

It’s easy to forget the big picture when you report on a quarterly earnings. Apple has seen a tremendous year. With $156 billion in revenue representing 45 percent growth compared to 2011, and an incredible 61 percent increase of net income compared to 2011.

Samsung already gave us a hint of what to expect to see in its latest quarterly financials, but now the Korean consumer electronics titan has released its earnings for all to see.

Latent demand and new product innovations is fuelling growth in the storage software market, with the worldwide market expected to grow 7.8 percent year over year in 2011 to nearly $13.8 billion in revenues.
