http://www.linuxquestions.org – I was wondering what the best way is of cloning a root folder to a new drive (ie smaller ssd) using a Live CD/DVD. After mounting the original drive on /mnt/source & the new drive on /mnt/target: tar Code: #cd /mnt/source #tar cBf - . | (cd /mnt/target && tar xBf -) rsync Code: #rsync -aHAXv /mnt/source/ /mnt/target/ --exclude={/dev/*,/proc/*,/sys/*,/tmp/*,/run/*,/mnt/*,/media/*,/lost+found/*} After this: 1) grub-install --recheck --root-directory=/mnt/target /dev/sdX & chroot to target + update-grub 2) edit /mnt/target/etc/fstab to add the new uuid/label Is either of t (HowTos)
