Today the first release candidate of Linux Mint 11, codenamed Katya, has been released. Linux Mint 11 is based on Ubuntu 11.04 “Natty Narwhal” which was released late last month.Like Ubuntu 11.04, Linux Minth 11 RC is based on GNOME 2.32. However, Linux Mint 11 does not use Unity and has the classic GNOME desktop instead.

Great news for KDE lovers! Linux Mint 12 KDE RC version – got released few weeks ago. The default version of Linux Mint was already available with Gnome 3 and Mate desktop but it’s for those who love KDE or don’t like Gnome anymore (probably due to some major changes in Gnome 3/shell interface).
Linux Mint 13 (Maya) is based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Edition, but instead of using Unity as the default Desktop, Linux Mint uses MATE Desktop, although, It is also available with various other Desktop such as Cinnamon (A new Desktop based on Gnome Shell), KDE, XFCE etc.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) has got improved unity desktop with a lot of cool new stuffs, and it’s pretty stable! (unlike the previous versions). On the other hand, Linux Mint 13 – which has been released in parallel with 12.04, but with a new desktop based on Gnome 3/shell – called as Cinnamon (which seems to be better because of the Gnome 2 look and feel).
