Best graphics drivers to use for ATI Radeon 6800?

http://forums.fedoraforum.org – Hi, I've installed the FGLRX drivers using a guide from here and am able to now play quake live, yay! But now I'm trying to run Dota 2 using wine which shouldnt be a problem but the FGLRX drivers don't support something todo with RGB OpenGL that wine uses. The original drivers fedora installed wouldnt let me play quake live (Sorry I dont know what they were) What open source drivers should I use for a Radeon 6800? If anyone has a link to a guide aswell that would be great. First time I tried to installed FGLRX i couldnt get the desktop to boot and had to reinstall Fedora. Thanks. (HowTos)

I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my lenovo laptop and found a "chip" image on the top of the screen. It showed me to install 3 drivers

ATI/AMD Proprietary FGLRX graphics drivers (post-release updates) Broadcom STA wireless drivers ATI/AMD Proprietary FGLRX graphics drivers

When I installed 1st one, it showed me some error so, I installed 2nd one it was successful.

This is my first post, so I'm not sure if I posted to the right section.

I am having problems getting the HDMI to work on my laptop running 12.04 LTS.

Background I got it to work for a while using the opensource radeon drivers. But seeing the the temperature was running at 80++ degrees, I decided to install fglrx drivers to see if it improved.

I have the ATI (AMD) HD7870 graphic card and I had just installed Ubuntu. With the Open Source drivers the desktop works fine; however, since I have a newer card, I'd like the proprietary drivers installed.

However, whenever I install it either from Additional Drivers, or from the AMD's website, I am able to log in, but then compiz immediately crashes and all I see is my desktop background.

I have ubuntu 12.04.2 and kde. I have fglrx 13.1 latest drivers. Sometimes I have freezes at starup, it's very annoying, and I discovered it's bug : http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=691 So maybe I should remove fglrx proprietary drivers and go back to mesa open drivers.

Here a new fresh openSUSE 11.3 installed where everything works like a charm :) The only worry I have now is about the default free radeon drivers (r600) where they seems to be working well but clearly it's not same as my past openSUSE 11.2 with fglrx.
