It’s been some four months since I’m not using my favorite Distro (Arch Linux), I’m now using Debian.
All started because I’ve made some changes to my Arch Linux computer, and it stopped working, I needed something to work, and because the installation process of Arch Linux is not that easy or at least not that fast, I decided to go with Debian.
Debian developers like to take their time embracing new technologies, with a relatively lengthy release cycle compared to most of the Linux clan. Indeed, it's taken almost two years to come up with Debian 5, the latest incarnation of this venerable distro.
I am a newcomer to linux/ubuntu. So is the term distro as it refers to various linux or
debian type systems, simply a short version of distribution?
When I look at the list of operating systems under linux, I wonder is this really
freedom or limitation, wouldn't it be more appealing for someone developing
software if all the distro's were combined into one , simply called linux?
Linux Mint Debian Edition has proven to be a popular release for the Linux Mint developers. It's certainly at the top of my list of favorite distros. Linux Mint Debian edition uses the GNOME desktop and, as good as it is, it's just not right for some folks (especially those on older or slower computers). Enter Linux Mint 201104 Xfce version.

A full review of the Debian version of Linux Mint 9. Each time Ubuntu is updated, we get also get another version of Linux Mint. I usually end up reviewing most of the Linux Mint derivatives of Ubuntu. This time around though, weve gotten a delightful surprise from the Linux Mint developers. A Debian version of Linux Mint!
After making my debian masterpiece, I have decided that my next project is to make my own distro or a joint distro with a certain someone we all probably know (to be unveiled with his permission).
Howdy 2 years 43 weeks ago hello from belgium.Watching the progress of #! and thinking of replacing my Zenwalk distro just to play with a (good) Debian Style distro instead of a (good) Slackware style distro. In fact, the main reason is to have acces to the repository of Debian which is quite bigger than the ones for Slackware/ZW.Cheers,-S
I have a basic dual setup with Linux Debian and Windows 7 (Grub is my bootloader). However, since this machine will be donated to a friend that does not know a lot about computers, I would like to install a more user friendly Linux distro.
I suspect that if I try to install on top of Debian, the bootloader will be overwritten and hell will break loose.
